On December 13, Jim Moore joined CGTN’s Mike Walter along with John Gong, economics professor at Beijing’s University of International Business and Economics, Yan Liang, an associate professor of economics at Willamette University, and Saruhan Hatipoglu, CGTN’s Global Economics Analyst and the CEO of BERI, to discuss the agreement on a Phase One trade deal between the U.S. in China. Moore noted that China was the hottest topic among CEOs at the Wall Street Journal CEO Council meeting which he attended as a member on December 9 and 10 and that the agreement reached shows momentum but some questions remain. Moore added that solutions to the trade dispute must go beyond reducing tariffs if they are to address the needs of all parties and the future of the U.S.-China relationship.

Moore, a former assistant secretary of commerce, negotiated the Uruguay round at the GATT, which led to the formation of the World Trade Organization.
